Crime questionaire

- Tell us about the kinds of crime that you see or hear about in your
community/these communities?
- Which are the ones that you think are most worrying? (And why?)
- Why do you think these crimes are taking place?
- How is it affecting you? (Is it changing the way you go about your
day-to-day business?) How is it affecting the neighbourhood/community? (does
it make it harder to get along or are people suspicious of one another as a
result?)
- Do you feel safe living here? Do you think others feel safe?
- (At this point, you could ask some follow-up questions about the victims
of crime and the perpetrators, and how they are supported/shunned by the
community)
- Who are the different people/groups that should be addressing the crime
problems we have spoken about? (and here you can address the community
initiatives going on, their knowledge of the CPF, the role of parents, the
police etc)
- Tell them that you want to tell stories about the experience of crime in
their neighbourhoods but you also want to come back to them and talk about
ways that you could work together to come up with some solutions to deal
with the issues or put them in touch with people who can help. Ask if they
would be willing to work with you in that way. But also be clear that what
you are proposing is collaborative - you are not there to deliver
answers/solutions by yourself.
- Also ask them the kinds of stories that they would like to hear about,
because they will be your audience. What would help them to understand the
issues better and understand how they can better get involved?
